The St. Mary's Basilica in Kevelaer is of the most colorful painted churches of the Rheinland region. Due to damages form the second world war many stained glass windows were destroyed. In 1946 these were replaced. Some were designed by the artist Hans Mennekes from the near village of Weeze.

Heute wird in Kevelaer als einzigem deutschsprachigen Ort dieser Apostolische Segen durch den Pfarrer oder einen anwesenden Bischof an den Festtagen Mariä Heimsuchung, Mariä Himmelfahrt, Mariä Geburt und Allerheiligen gespendet.. Holiest shrine of Kevelaer. Obviously most important of all chapels and also most stunning. You can walk inside all around, but it seems after sunset the back panels open up for people to still visit the shrine. The decorations are amazing, both the ceiling and the floor and the walls and the shrine, haha. Review of: Gnadenkapelle.
